Move in day can be long and tiring, the last thing you want is to trudge to buy a gown, t-shirt, tie or pin. Here you can pre-order your gown, Freshers’ T-shirt, College Tie and/or pin and it will be sitting waiting in your room on Move In day! You will need a gown and College tie or pin for our formals throughout the year and several of our welcome events - you can find out more about each item below! If you have chosen to opt-into the JCR Levy you can claim your free Freshers T-Shirt and College Pin.

Freshers T-Shirt
This shirt will be your first step into the South College family. Your Freshers’ top will be used throughout Freshers’ Week for our events. Undoubtedly, after Freshers they will become your new favourite sports shirt, pyjama top, or just a casual top! For those not opted-into the levy the Freshers top will be charged at £5 but included in the price of the Welcome Week charge, and if you have opted-into the JCR Levy your top will be free with your Welcome Week! If you choose not to pay for the Welcome Week events, you may be able to purchase any t-shirts we have remaining at the end of the week.
We ask everyone to wear a either a College Tie, or Pin for our College Formals and some welcome events, the choice of pin or tie is up to you!
College Pin
You will need a College Pin for our formal dinners and some welcome events. Traditionally, the College Pin is worn on the left lapel of the gown, however you are welcome to wear it on whichever side feels best! Pins are free for all JCR members, and can be purchased for £2 by non-JCR students
College Tie
You will need a College Tie for our formal dinners and some welcome events. This year we have a limited number of Silk Ties (£15 JCR, £18 non-JCR) but can purchase more if they are popular enough! We also have Polyester Ties which are £9 for JCR members and £12 for non-JCR members.
Gown
You will need a gown for our College formals and some welcome events, gowns are a key part in Durham’s history and traditions. In order to select the right sized gown you need to measure the length (in inches) between your shoulder and your knee, sizes come in 40", 42", 44", 46", 50" or 52". Gowns are priced at £50 for JCR members and £60 for non-JCR members.
